CYBERSECURITY REVIEW6 DEC - JANEditorialThe past year saw a massive migration of businesses onto the cloud network, resulting in major implications for the cybersecurity space. Though the cloud offers a broad range of benefits like reduced costs, higher efficiency, and scalability, it is also the most vulnerable target for cybercriminals. Additionally, the mass migration has led to the rise of new cyber threats and vulnerabilities and the discovery of new attack surfaces which were not previously covered by the traditional security measures. During the first quarter of 2021, the business world also witnessed a pattern emphasizing several extortion or ransomware attacks, the most common being phishing. In response, organizations are beginning to transition onto zero trust network access (ZTNA) from the otherwise traditional virtual private networks (VPNs) to control and limit the remote access of their sensitive data. We can expect this trend to engulf two-thirds of the businesses in the upcoming years. Along with that, companies are also adopting multi-factor authentication (MFA) as an additional layer of defense against cyber-attacks. But only implementing technology is not the answer to this predicament. Companies must also fuse it with the human intelligence factor to bolster the cybersecurity equation. Businesses can connect technology with human intelligence by addressing the unprecedented shortage of CISOs in the cybersecurity space, which surfaced during the pandemic. CISOs play a highly significant role in aligning the security operations with the business strategies of a company. The absence of such an important figure lowers the confidence of other business executives as the former is significant in bridging the gap between technology and business. CISOs help in locating risks, articulating cybersecurity strategies, and mitigating and managing the risks. Organizations must also educate their workforce on phishing strategies like malicious emails while leveraging identity management services on the side to check their circulations. This edition of Cyber Security Review aims to provide readers insights from industry leaders to help them have a detailed understanding of the security assessment arena and the recent developments in this field.
